Merck Ltd. is the Merck chemicals operations arm in Japan. Established in 1968 initially to import and sell products from Germany, today it is the market leader in liquid crystals for the display industry, and a significant presence in pearl luster effect pigments which give color to a wide range of products. The company also conducts research into advanced materials with energy generation and other functional properties. With its performance materials, Merck Ltd. contributes to an abundant quality of life.
In 2011, Merck Ltd. integrated the business of Nihon Millipore K.K., following the global acquisition of the life sciences entity Millipore Corporation. With our new colleagues, Merck Ltd. now provides a total solution to support the life sciences across all areas of activity, from conceptual bio science research to drug discovery and pharmaceutical manufacturing, creating value at every step in the process.
